Green Gates Park & Me:
This project is personally important to me as I have a young family and live locally to Green Gates Park. I want my children to have access to a safe environment to play near to our home as they grow up. Access and availability of green space has a direct impact on mental health and wellbeing, in respect of this I will be bringing my children up to embrace the outdoors. This project has scope to benefit the wider community through providing access to green space for all generations residing in the locality; it would, therefore, contribute to the mental welling of the community as a whole. Saltworks is a wonderful facility for older children, dog walkers and those participating in sport. It’s secluded location sheltered from the road by tall greenery, close proximity to the M56 and lack of a sufficient amount of rubbish bins make it not overly suitable for young children. Neither does Saltworks provide a relaxing space of benefit to the wider community, particularly the elderly.
On moving to the area I was shocked to discover that the neglected parcel of land down the road used to be home to a wonderful children’s playground. We should value and treasure these spaces for when they are gone they will be lost forever amongst an endless sea on concrete. My husband and I chose to raise our children in this community so that they would be able to experience a balance of outdoor and indoor activities. It is an absolute travesty that a playground, especially a playground protected by a covenant order has been neglected by our Town Council for so long. The council have a responsibility to maintain this land for the benefit of local people and not to sell it off to make way for housing.
What my role involves:
Alongside generally supporting the organisation, I design our marketing materials and have also created our website. I participate in each of our meetings and offer my support where I can.
I have a strong sense of community and strive to make a positive contribution to the place where I live. I was a participant in the community spirit of my previous village that saved our wonderful library.
